Give calendar 2009 to households in Chililab site
As previous years, Chililab office sends the New Year’s greetings to all about 17,600 households in Chililab site (3 towns: Sao Do, Pha Lai, Ben Tam and 4 communes: An Lac, Hoang Tien, Le Loi, Van An).
The Chililab’s staffs give every household a calendar 2009 enclose the word of thanks for the coorperation between Chililab and community in Chi Linh District.
The year 2009 is comming soon, we wish all of you a new year happy, healthy and successful.

The 14th quarter DSS
The 14th quarter DSS investigating round started on the first of January, 2009 in seven communes/townships in Chi Linh district, Hai Duong province, include 3 townships (Sao Do, Pha Lai, Ben Tam) and 4 communes (An Lac, Le Loi, Van An, Hoang Tien).
The Chililab’s operational staffs are collecting data at households actively. As planned, this data collection will finish at the middle of February, 2009.
There has been a change about the length of a DDS investigating round since January, 2009. A round widens six months instead of four months as before.

INDEPTH Network 2nd Training Workshop on Strategic Planning and Leadership
23rd – 27th March 2009, Bangkok, Thailand.
The INDEPTH Network invite Dr. Tran Huu Bich, the CHILILAB's Manager and Dr. Nguyen Thuy Quynh to participate in the above mentioned training workshop, co-organized by the Kanchanaburi DSS of Institute for Population and Social Research (IPSR) - Mahidol University, Thailand and the Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya.
The workshop is funded by the INDEPTH Network and will be held from 23rd – 27th
March 2009 at the Ramada D’MA Bangkok (www.ramada-bkk.com). Objective of the
workshop is to develop the leadership and strategic planning skills of participants. By the
end of the workshop participants are expected to conceptualize the development of
sustainable research centers based on corporate principles while maintaining the research
environment and structure.

US students will study in Chi Linh district from March 30th to April 2nd
Thirty-two students who come from United States of American will study in Chi Linh district at the end of March. These students and their professor will study at CHILILAB and visit Chi Linh District Hospital. Then they will conduct some activities in the community such as discuss to mothers having under 5 years-old children and visit a kindergarten in Sao Do.

Hyperbilirubin study
Hanoi School of Public Health is co-operating to California San Francisco University to implement The study of incidence of Hyperbilirubin in blood, risk factors and negative factors of health - caring newborns in the North of Viet Nam.
There are about 1000 participants in this study. The participants have a new child bearing in The Demographic-Epidemiologic Surveillance System (DESS) in 7 communes/towns of Chi Linh district, Hai Duong province.
In this study, the researchers will find the incidence of jaundice of newborns and the reasons why this rate has been high in Viet Nam. The California San Francisco funds this study.
The study started in October, 2008 and it will be closed collecting data in June, 2010.
